What was needed?
The Diocese of Superior wanted to take full advantage of new internet technologies to present their community's wealth of information, events, activities and services to the public.

How did we do it?

Full Story

The static HTML Diocese of Superior Website Design and Structure did not allow for easily accessible and well-organized web content.

The website required a complete redesign with an entirely new look, customized functionalities and improved accessibility. Diocese staff members also needed to manage the site's frequently updated content easily themselves.

The Diocese of Superior contacted Julie Martin Design after reviewing our company’s first venture with a custom church website design produced in cooperation with Julie Martin Design for the Diocese of Duluth website.

In September 2006, Julie Martin Design engaged PLANet Systems Group to complete the implementation of a new web ‘design’ for www.catholicdos.org based on provided page design specifications.
Julie Martin was in charge of the designing and functionality overview process, while PLANet Systems Group’s team of experienced programmers was in charge of programming and CMS customization.

Key client requests:
The primary request was to customize the site in accordance with the needs of ministry and staff.

The list of added customized functionalities includes:
•    Interactive Diocesan Calendar of Events
•    Full customization of drop-down menus
•    Easy uploading of audio and streaming video files
•    Internal search engine
•    Parish directory with full contact details and information with links to map locations
(Click on links above to preview the listed features on the Diocese of Superior Website)

Project Overview
Julie Martin Design provided design templates as layered Photoshop images.
PLANet Systems Group integrated and implemented the new design within the framework of the PLANet Spirit Content Management System (CMS). The PLANet Spirit CMS made the site more modular and easier to maintain and update, while creating a solid foundation from which to add new modules and functionality.

PLANet Systems Group worked with Julie Martin Design management team to suggest options for making the ‘data’ more modular and thus easier to maintain and update.

Results
PLANet Systems Group’s expertise and customized software solutions enabled the Diocese of Superior ministry and staff members to take full control of their website. Apart from the added functionalities and better accessibility, the greatest advantage of presenting web content through well-organized dynamic layouts was being able to update web content on a regular basis without assistance from IT professionals and with no previous IT knowledge.
